Nigerian Navy Visits South Africa by way of Simon’s Town for First Time – By special correspondent: Bob Johnston

The Frigate, NNS Thunder, F 90 arrived in Simon’s Town last Wednesday 21 August for a Port Call and Rest and Recuperation while in transit from Australia.

The C.O. Capt Clement Egbinta Atabi has under his command a crew compliment of 170 personnel. The objectives to be achieved are to maintain the SA Navy’s sound relations with the Nigerian Navy and to enhance contact between the Nigerian Navy and the local South African community. This Frigate is some 115 m in length and has a draught of 4.6 m, the Frigate departed on the August 24th again from Simonstown.
